Deaf Australia sincerely appreciates and thanks you for sharing the recent video that raises awareness and highlights the importance of including Auslan in the Census on 11 August. Thank you for your support!

This video explains where to put Auslan in the Census and which question to look for.

Before we begin, please note that there are two ways to complete the Census: online or on paper.

As you work through the Census questions, please pay close attention to Question 21. This question asks:

“Does the person use a language other than English at home?”

If you use another language most often at home, including your primary or preferred language, select:

“Yes, other language (please specify)”

Then type or write:

Auslan

That’s all you need to do. After that, you can continuecompleting the rest of the Census questions as normal.

We hope these instructions are clear and easy to follow.

Again, we strongly encourage you to share this information with your networks, especially people who use Auslan as their primary orpreferred language. By spreading awareness of this important campaign, you can help ensure people know exactly where to put Auslan in the Census.

Remember: Question 21 is the place to include Auslan.
